Monday Motivation

Well, August came in hot. Not necessarily for the Bay Area, depending on what part of the bay your live in, but with COVID cases on the rise again it’s definitely heating the vaccine debate up and we’re back to wearing masks indoors again, no matter if you’ve gotten the shot or not.

To think that we’re now a year and half into the pandemic and still not really getting anywhere is disconcerting for sure. I'm still keeping my distance and only visiting with friends when we can meet up outside, but I’m wondering how long we’re going to have to live this way.

In the meantime, I’m reading A LOT, getting all my housework done, and trying to find ways to keep busy without too much TV or Netflix. I’m even writing a bit which has always been goal/dream of mine, just never could get the words to the paper until now. It might not amount to much but I’ve never felt more accomplished that I do at the moment and not just with work, but also on a personal level.

We’ve all been forced to sit with ourselves to some degree during lockdowns and while some don’t know what to do with their free time, there are others who are spending it in self-reflection and learning how to cope without the unnecessary noise on the outside.

Yes, depression and anxiety have been taking a hold in more ways than one with our change in lifestyle, I haven’t been immune to the dark thoughts and panic attacks but I have been finding ways to ease those symptoms and brighten the mood.

COVID causes us to fear more than illness and loss but to worry about it while we’re healthy and OK, only robs us of the time and joy we have in the moment. If you’re able to take precautions to ensure your safety and do what you can to avoid it, the worry is only causing you to pay a debt you don’t owe.

Being a worrier and over thinker, I tend to get caught up in thoughts and scenarios that may never actually happen. By doing so, I’m stealing the moment from myself and those around me by thinking that my worry will prevent the worst from happening when in reality it’s not something we can control at all.

Take a step back when you're feeling like things are spinning in your mind, take stock of what’s real in the now. Find something to do to occupy your mind and brings happiness. I have hope that things will get better and maybe we’ll even find ourselves along the way.
