Magical Midlife Series by K.F. Breene

Over the long holiday weekend I picked up a series that was unputdownable and couldn’t stop reading. I was looking for something light and a little different than my typical thriller/mysteries I typically devour. These books did not disappoint.

Jessie, newly divorced and looking to find her way after sending her son off to college is given a chance to become the caretaker of a large house in a small town. Since she was not looking forward to staying with her parents to get her life in order at 40, this seemed like a good chance to get her feet back under her.

Little did she know her life would be thrown upside-down and then right-side up again. She found friends, a love like no other and a new view on life she didn’t even know existed and certainly wasn’t expecting.

Filled with magical creatures, the story provided a well needed escape from reality but also led to a way to turn mid-life on its head.

I turned 42 this year and although have yet to experience real magic, my life resembled Jessie’s need to find herself at this age. We’re no longer young enough to see all of life ahead of us but that doesn’t mean it’s over. Far from it.

We’re mature enough and have lived through some difficult times but have a lot of life left to live and experience.

If you’re looking for a bit of magic and inspiration this might be the perfect series to pick up and check out. If anything, at least give the first book a chance. It had me laughing out loud, relating to Jessie on multiple levels and seeking the desire to pick myself up and move on from the life I thought was laid out for me.

Description

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that's exactly what my life becomes.

Do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could've imagined.

Thankfully forty isn't too old to start an adventure, because that's exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.
