Lesson Learned

I had a strict rule of not engaging in or even posting political-themed content… until I broke it. I learned the hard way that the walls we put up are sometimes best left standing especially in this political climate.
But I didn’t follow my rules.
This morning with the news buzzing over Trump’s latest comments, I hopped on Twitter to gauge the temperature and quickly saw a few of his tweets that immediately got my blood pumping. Of course, when you feel passionate about something and someone is trying to say otherwise, we feel a need to share our thoughts.
When commenting on this tweet below, I got a reply from someone who wasn’t happy with what I said. See below.

Now…let me start by admitting that I misspell words too and looking back I realize I could have not said anything in return, but the clap-back felt good, and I didn’t want to get into it with her knowing it would just continue.

Again, that’s why I have rules about posting, it quickly goes downhill as soon as an internet-troll grabs hold.
To me, there was nothing to take out of her tweet, and even now writing this, I realize I’m giving it more fuel than it deserves. However, the reason I’m sharing it in hopes that you too come to realize that engaging in negative online behavior like this isn’t worth it.
Most of us are at home and trying to occupy our time, but the way we do that can leave you a more positive person with new skills on the other end, or you can remain the same. I choose to take this moment to better myself. I’ve not only been taking classes, which I’m sure a lot of others are doing, but I’m also reading more, I’m meditating, doing the whole video conferencing thing for Sunday services, and above all putting in the time and applying this behavior as much as I can both online and in real-life.
We all have goals and things we want to accomplish and although we can’t physically seek them out right now, the resources are literally at your fingertips. Never had we had such an abundance of information right in front of us and because there’s so much, we actually get to choose what we want to search for! Don’t get caught in the negative spin of things, do research to educate yourself and above all, if you share your opinions, don’t be cruel about it. Try not to call someone out on it.
It’s hard, I know! But there’s not going to be a positive outcome no matter how you try to get around it. Take this time to spread positivity and if someone comes for you in a hateful or rude way, don’t clap-back with a negative mind. It’s not worth it!
Know that we may have different views and beliefs, but underneath it all, we’re all the same.
Time to sage!
